£6. 57 per hour, Maximum of 20 hours per week Ref: GSS/03/9
Walsall Housing Group and NHS Walsall have developed a capacity building programme to promote health and also encourage people to become involved in the regeneration of their neighbourhoods. The programme is called NOW – New Opportunities in Walsall in health and regeneration. The programme is being funded for three years through the Big Lottery fund, whg, NHS Walsall and VIEW - Visionary Investment Enhancing Walsall.
An important element of the programme is to recruit and train local people who live in the areas of Darlaston, Brownhills, Palfrey, Pleck, St Matthews, Birchills, Blakenall and Bloxwich as Community Champions.  We are interested in recruiting a wide range of Community Champions from young people to the more mature, with different backgrounds and personal experiences that will enable them to understand the elements of the programme.
To be  one of these 2 Community  Champions you should:
-
- be able to speak fluent Urdu (and Bangladeshi if possible);
- have an understanding of the needs and issues facing BME communities;
- be able to develop good relationships with people and organisations and earn the trust of others;
- be able to communicate with a wide range of people;
- have good listening skills;
- be emotionally mature and sensitive yet resilient;
- have interests or skills in areas such as health, sports, arts and community regeneration;
- have initiative and enthusiasm to develop new projects;
- have good organising, planning and administrative skills;
- be committed to equality and diversity.
These 2 Community  Champions will work within the BME community, working with local groups and organisations.  You will also be working on an outreach basis, door knocking in neighbourhoods, meeting people in places they frequent, such as cafes, shopping centres and on the street. You must be able to work as part of a team and also be prepared to work on your own.
The successful candidates will have will be required to undertake an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Service check (CRB). Â

WHG are currently conducting a review of our pay structure with the involvement of our recognised trade unions. This may affect the pay of this post in the future.
