Local charities could benefit from software donationsPublished in Featured,Local News,News,WVA News on 14th January, 2010
Walsall Voluntary Action – the campaigning centre for the town’s voluntary and community sector – has joined forces with the Charity Technology Exchange (CTX) to promote a scheme that can provide local registered charities with access to popular software packages like Microsoft Office, for just a nominal fee.The CTX programme has been created by the Charity Technology Trust, in association with the not-for-profit technology organisation TechSoup. Through the programme, eligible UK Registered Charities and Charitable Housing Associations can request donated technology products from leading companies like Microsoft, Symantec and Cisco.
Eligible organisations are required to pay a small admin fee to cover the costs of the programme. None of this fee goes to the donor companies and in practice it means that a small charity, with say 10 computers, can obtain the latest office, anti-virus, publishing and server software for around £200.
Ian Willetts, Chief Executive of Walsall Voluntary Action, said:
“IT is an essential part of modern life, but many charities struggle to meet the costs of obtaining the latest software to support their work. That’s why we are supporting this initiative, which we believe will bring real benefits to charities working here in Walsall.
Any charity interested in taking part in this scheme should contact Walsall Voluntary Action on 01922 619840 or visit the CTX website at http://www.ctxchange.org/. They could make some substantial savings on the latest IT kit!”
